Somatic Reflections Week Two: Exploring Connection

Lyanne Westie

As we close the second week of the 31 Days of Somatic Reflections series, I’m reflecting on the importance of connection—not only with others but also with ourselves. This week’s prompts offered an opportunity to explore the many ways connection shapes how we experience connection with ourselves, with others and with the space around us.

This week’s prompts explored:

Day 8: How does it feel to pause and connect with your body?

Day 9: How does your body respond when you think of a loved one?

Day 10: What helps you stay safe and grounded in your environment?

Day 11: How does your body feel when you are fully present in the moment?

Day 12: In this moment, what movement or posture would feel nourishing for your body?

Day 13: How does your body react to words of comfort? What words would you offer yourself?

Day 14: How does your body react to comforting touch? What touch would you offer yourself?

This practice reminds us that connection is multifaceted. It can come through comforting touch, grounding in our environment, or simply taking a moment to pause and be present and in connection with ourself. These small acts of connection, when done with intention, can help us regulate, ground, notice our needs, and create space for growth.

Often, our sense of connection is disrupted by automatic reactions to past experiences or habitual patterns that no longer serve us. By slowing down and noticing how we feel, we can interrupt those patterns and respond in ways that better support our current needs.

Our minds can take us to limitless places, but intentionally exploring connection invites us to anchor in the present moment—connecting with what is happening in our mind, body, or the space around us right now.

Next week, the reflections will shift to Regulation and Safety—a continuation of this journey, focusing on noticing what supports us in feeling grounded, calm, and at ease.

I’d love for you to join this ongoing exploration! You can find the daily prompts and added tips for somatic reflections on Instagram @mindbodyalignmentcounselling or follow along here for weekly summaries.
